Across the globe, numerous art galleries opt for a summer hiatus. Is it the scorching 100+ degree temperatures that so many of us are now forced to endure, or perhaps just the galleries’ need to occassionally pause and regroup? Summer respites are customary in major cities like Paris and New York, affording time for research, inventory management, and essential maintenance.

This summer, the Fort Worth art scene has similarly eased its pace. Although sporadic gallery openings persist, footfall has tended to dwindle. The consistent onslaught of extreme heat has notably cast a shadow over art-related gatherings, though this outcome is unsurprising. Personally, I too have missed several events due to other summertime engagements, familial responsibilities, and, undeniably, the intense heat.

Nevertheless, there’s no cause for concern! The upcoming autumn art lineup is already in the works. Fort Worth is poised to burst back to life with an array of art events, starting with the eagerly awaited Fall Gallery Night on September 9th. This highly anticipated affair will inaugurate the 2023-2024 art season. Notably, The Modern boasts captivating new exhibits, and if you haven’t yet experienced the Maya exhibition at the Kimbell, time is of the essence, as it concludes on September 3rd.

Make plans to venture over to the Botanic Gardens, where a delightful new outdoor art exhibition titled “FLORIGAMIINTHEGARDEN” will debut on August 19th. This exhibition will showcase 18 innovative sculptures inspired by the Japanese art of paper folding — truly an intriguing concept!

Also, don’t forget to mark your calendars for October 21st because Arts Goggle is making a comeback! Presented by Near Southside, this event is a vibrant celebration of local art, music, food, and culture. Best of all, it’s a free and open-to-the-public occasion that brings the community together.

Prepare, Fort Worth, for as the weather gradually cools, it will usher in a plethora of remarkable art escapades. See y’all out there!
